Sheepshead Review Spring 2018 Reflection
It’s a wrap! The Spring 2018 issue of Sheepshead Review has been completed.
On Tuesday, May 1, our staff held our Launch Party for the Spring 2018 issue at the Common Grounds CoffeeHouse here on the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay campus. The Launch Party was a great success, and our beautiful, brand new Spring 2018 issue was handed out among those who were able to attend. Most of our staff was present, and it was a great way for us to celebrate all of the hard work we put into creating a high-quality journal full of amazing literary and artistic talent.
With plenty of free food available, including pie and cupcakes, attendees enjoyed listening to live readings of some of the pieces featured in the journal, ranging from fiction to nonfiction to poetry. Some pieces were funny, while others were emotionally powerful, but all were appreciated by the audience listening to those brave enough to stand up on the stage in front of the mic.
Heather Schroeder, our layout editor for the Spring 2018 issue (as well as the Fall 2017 issue!), got up to say a few words about the design of the journal, which features an oceanic theme and her own illustrations. The event closed out with our Editor-in-Chief, Sara Ladwig, thanking the staff for their hard work and bidding farewell, as she is graduating later this month.
Overall, it was event brimming with emotion. As happy as we were to celebrate our new issue, it was also a bittersweet time, as many members of our staff are graduating this year and won’t be able to be work on the next issue of the journal.
Our staff this semester did a great job of creating a spectacular journal and selecting amazing pieces to be featured in it. Though Sheepshead had to be canceled three separate times (!) this semester due to the crazy Wisconsin winter weather, we managed, once again, to get the issue out. Creating a beautiful journal in the course of one semester is not an easy task, but it is an extremely rewarding one. Through all the obstacles, we created a journal that we are proud to have bear the Sheepshead Review name.
We are already looking forward to creating our Fall 2018 issue when our new staff comes together this upcoming September. If you are currently a UWGB student, there are still spaces available for you to enroll in English 324 – Sheepshead Review Practicum for next semester! This is an incredible opportunity to get real, hands-on experience with a high-quality literary and art journal right here on campus.
